Professional facial treatments combine skin analysis, cleansing, exfoliation, massage, extractions and masks with tailored product recommendations to improve and maintain skin health.

How This Course Is Delivered
SHBBFAS005 is delivered in three stages that fit around your work and life. Blended delivery made up of online theory, live Zoom sessions with Kelly, 3 days of face-to-face practical training, a recorded clinical logbook and nationally recognised assessments. Includes SHBBSSC001 and SHBBSSC002, completed online through Parramatta Community College.

What You Will Learn
This course covers all performance criteria, knowledge and skills required to perform facial treatments safely and professionally.
- Client consultation and identifying a treatment plan
- Skin analysis and diagnosis using a magnifying lamp
- Background of skin biology, function, growth and development
- Facial cleansing and exfoliation and deep cleansing
- Facial, neck and scalp massage routine
- Mask application and extractions
- Selecting appropriate products and product knowledge
- Steaming and brush machine use
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisite units for this course.
SHBBSSC001 Skin Structure and Functions and SHBBSSC002 Body Structures and Functions are included in this course. They are completed online through Parramatta Community College.
Entry Requirements and How You Are Assessed
Entry requirements
- 18 years or older
- Language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete written assessments
- Valid photo identification
- A Unique Student Identifier (USI) before your Statement of Attainment can be issued
- Access to clients for your clinical logbook
How you are assessed
- Written quiz and knowledge assessment
- Practical observation of facial treatments on clients
- A recorded clinical logbook review
Each unit is assessed as Competent or Not Yet Competent. If you already hold any units, credit transfer applies. If you have industry experience without the formal units, you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Kelly Dermody - Founder and Principal Educator. Kelly has over 30 years of clinical electrolysis and beauty therapy experience and more than 15 years of teaching, including at TAFE. She is Division Lead for Electrology with the Aesthetic and Beauty Industry Council (ABIC), a Senior Advisor on its Education and Regulation Committees and co-founder of Australia's first ABIC Electrology Symposium. Kelly was an ABIA Educator of the Year finalist in 2025 and 2026.
Emma Dermody - Co-founder and Educator. Emma co-founded Dermaskin Academy and works alongside Kelly in clinic and in the classroom.
