If you're looking for a course you can't find listed, contact us — we can discuss bespoke options.
Yes — our core courses are nationally accredited and issued by our registered RTO partner, recognised by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). Your Statement of Attainment is valid across all Australian states and territories, accepted by insurers, and meets the regulatory requirements for skin penetration procedures.
We also offer short and special interest courses that are not nationally accredited — these are skill-based and clearly labelled as such. If accreditation matters for your insurance or scope of practice, always choose the nationally accredited unit.
For advanced treatments like electrolysis, skin needling and diathermy, a nationally accredited qualification isn't just a career advantage — it's a regulatory requirement in most states and a non-negotiable for professional indemnity insurance.
A workshop certificate or manufacturer training day is not sufficient for insurance compliance or to legally perform skin penetration procedures in Australia. A nationally accredited Statement of Attainment from a registered RTO is the qualification that holds up under scrutiny from insurers, council inspectors and state health regulators.
Beyond compliance, accredited qualifications are recognised nationwide, transferable between employers, and signal to clients that you have been trained to a verified standard — not just trained to use a product.
A nationally accredited course is delivered against the standards set by the national training package, assessed by a registered RTO, and results in a Statement of Attainment that is formally recognised by insurers, regulators and employers across Australia.
A short or special interest course is focused on skill-based learning for a specific technique or treatment. It does not result in a nationally accredited qualification, but can be a valuable way to add a new skill or refresh existing knowledge — particularly if you are already accredited in the relevant field.
If you are unsure which is right for you, contact us and we will help you choose.
Kelly Dermody has over 30 years of clinical and educational experience in advanced beauty. She is an ABIC Endorsed Educator, a Nationally Accredited Trainer and Assessor (TAE), and serves as Senior Advisor on both the ABIC Electrology Committee and the ABIC Education Committee — directly influencing the national standards that govern advanced beauty education in Australia.
Every course at Dermaskin Academy is written and delivered by Kelly personally. You are not learning from a manual written by someone else — you are learning from a clinician who has spent three decades at the treatment table.
We recommend contacting us before you enrol — especially for the electrolysis pathways — so we can confirm you are in the right stream and answer any questions you have. Kelly answers the phone personally and is happy to have a genuine conversation with you, no sales pitch.
Once you are ready to proceed, accredited courses are available to purchase through our online store. After checkout you will receive an enrolment form for our RTO partner, gain access to the online theory platform, and be contacted to book your face-to-face practical intensive.
The only legal pre-requisite for our electrolysis course (SHBBHRS013) is SHBBINF002 Maintain Infection Control Standards — a short, self-paced online unit. If you don't already hold this, we offer it and it can be completed before your intensive at your own pace.
Some Cert IV+ beauty graduates already hold a current SHBBINF002 — if you do, you may be able to skip this step entirely. Confirm with us at enrolment.
Other courses have their own pre-requisite requirements, clearly listed on each course page. If you are unsure, contact us and we will check for you.
Absolutely — and we encourage it. Kelly is happy to take a call, answer your questions, and help you decide whether the course is right for you before you spend a cent. There is no obligation and no sales pressure.
Call 0450 306 180 Monday to Friday during business hours, or send an email to info@dermaskintraining.com and we will get back to you within one business day.
Yes. Payment plan options are available for all accredited courses. Contact us before enrolling to discuss what works for your situation — we are flexible and want to make training accessible.
Yes. We understand that circumstances change. If you need to reschedule your practical intensive, contact us as early as possible and we will do our best to accommodate you. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for full details on our rescheduling policy.
All theory is completed online, self-paced, from anywhere in Australia. You study at your own pace within your enrolment period.
The face-to-face practical intensive is conducted in person at a Dermaskin Academy training location. This is where your hands-on clinical skills are developed and assessed — it cannot be done remotely. Practical blocks are capped at a maximum of 6 students to ensure you receive direct trainer attention on every skill.
Contact us for upcoming practical dates and locations in your state.
You have up to 3 months to complete your enrolled course. The online theory component is self-paced and flexible — most students complete it within 1–3 weeks depending on the course. The face-to-face practical is scheduled after you complete your online theory.
If you have extenuating circumstances that affect your timeline, contact us — we are reasonable and will work with you where we can.
All face-to-face practical blocks are capped at maximum 6 students. This is a firm limit — not a guideline. It means Kelly can give direct attention to every insertion, every technique, every client interaction. You will not be sitting in a room of 20 people watching a demonstration from the back of the room.
For some courses, one-to-one practical training is available — contact us to discuss.
No. All equipment is provided during your face-to-face practical training. You do not need to purchase anything before your course begins.
For post-course practice in your own setting, you will need access to the relevant equipment (for example, an electrolysis machine). We are happy to advise on equipment once you have completed your training.
Practical training is delivered at Dermaskin Academy locations across Australia. Dates and locations are confirmed at enrolment. Contact us for upcoming intake dates and available locations in your state.
Yes. All Statements of Attainment issued through Dermaskin Academy are issued by our registered RTO partner, recognised by ASQA, and valid across all Australian states and territories. They are accepted by professional indemnity insurers and satisfy the skin penetration regulatory requirements in each state.
Throughout your course you have direct access to Kelly. If you have a question about the theory content, need clarification on an assessment, or just want to talk through something before your practical — you can reach out and you will hear back from a person, not a helpdesk.
The small class size at practical blocks means you are never just a number. Kelly knows every student by name and tracks your progress individually.
No — and this is something we feel strongly about. When you graduate from Dermaskin Academy you receive lifetime support. That means:
Lifetime access to course materials — your learner guide and resources remain yours forever. No expiry date, no resubscription fee.
Ongoing trainer mentorship — you can reach out to Kelly any time after you qualify. A tricky client case, a question about machine settings, a confidence wobble six months in — we are always here.
Graduate community — you join the Dermaskin graduate network and can connect with fellow practitioners across Australia for peer support, referrals and professional growth.
100%. Every student who has enrolled in an accredited course at Dermaskin Academy has successfully completed their qualification. That is not a marketing claim — it is our record, and it reflects the combination of small class sizes, direct trainer involvement, and the ongoing support we provide throughout the course.
Stream 1 — Beauty Therapist / Cert IV+: If you hold a Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy or above, this is your pathway. You come in with the skin science foundation already in place and go straight to the electrolysis qualification.
Stream 2 — Nurse or Healthcare Professional: If you are AHPRA-registered or hold a formal allied health qualification, your clinical background means a condensed, focused pathway that builds on what you already know.
Stream 3 — New to the Industry: If you have no prior formal training in beauty or healthcare, this is your complete foundation pathway. Everything you need is included.
Just one thing: SHBBINF002 Maintain Infection Control Standards. It is a short, self-paced online unit completed before your face-to-face intensive, from home, at your own pace. That is the only legal requirement to get started.
Stream 3 also includes two skin science units — SHBBSSC001 and SHBBSSC002 — bundled into the course fee. They are not a legal requirement to enrol, but they are included because they make the electrolysis content significantly easier to absorb for students new to the industry. Most students are glad they did them.
Possibly not. If you already hold a current SHBBINF002 (or equivalent HLTINF005), you may be able to have this credited and proceed directly to SHBBHRS013 — bringing your course fee down to $3,199.
Contact us before enrolling and we will confirm whether your existing unit qualifies. It is a quick check and could save you time and money.
Electrolysis is the only hair removal method recognised by the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) as permanently effective. It works by delivering a precise electrical current to the individual hair follicle, destroying its ability to regrow.
Unlike laser and IPL, electrolysis works on all hair colours — including blonde, grey, white and red hair that laser cannot treat — and on all skin types, including darker skin tones where laser carries higher risk. For clients with PCOS, gender-affirming care needs, or post-chemotherapy hair changes, electrolysis is often the only appropriate clinical option.
On completion of SHBBHRS013, you are nationally accredited to perform professional electrolysis treatments — the only TGA-recognised permanently effective hair removal method in Australia. Your qualification is recognised by professional indemnity insurers and satisfies the skin penetration regulatory requirements across all Australian states and territories.
You will be able to treat all hair colours and skin types, including clients that laser cannot help — opening a specialist, high-demand service with strong income potential and very little competition in most markets.
All three streams lead to the same outcome: a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment for SHBBHRS013. The difference is in the starting point and what is included to get you there.
Stream 1 (Beauty Therapist / Cert IV+) assumes you already have the skin science foundation. It is the most efficient pathway to the qualification — 2 units, 2–3 days face-to-face, from $3,199.
Stream 2 (Nurse / Medical) builds on your clinical procedural skills. It is a condensed practical block with a longer face-to-face component to ensure clinical depth — 2–4 units, 6–7 days, from $3,199.
Stream 3 (New to Industry) is the complete foundation pathway. It includes everything — skin and body science, infection control and the electrolysis qualification itself. 4 units, 4–5 days face-to-face, $5,446 total.
