WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

-State and territory health regulations for skin penetration procedures
-How to identify and assess infection risks in a clinical environment
-Standard precautions and transmission-based precautions
-Sterilisation methods — autoclaving, chemical disinfection and single-use equipment
-Correct sharps handling, disposal and compliance with Australian standards
-Correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
-Workplace hygiene procedures including hand washing protocols
-How to review clinic compliance with infection control policies
-Blood spill management and biological waste disposal
-Documentation and incident reporting requirements

COURSE DELIVERY

This course is completed over approximately 3 weeks:
-Self-paced home study — review all notes, resources and presentations to complete the theory assessment
-Complete the underpinning knowledge assessment online
-Complete a review of your current workplace compliance with infection control policies
-Practically demonstrate application of infection control in a skin penetration setting

Practical assessment options:
-Demonstrated in a workplace that performs skin penetration procedures
-Demonstrated in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions
-Submitted as video evidence filmed at an appropriate location
-Completed onsite at Dermaskin Academy

ASSESSMENTS

Written underpinning knowledge assessment
Workplace compliance review — assessment of current infection control policies
Practical observation — demonstration of infection control during a skin penetration procedure
